Battery goes flat quickly

Hi all,
This is my first post.
I have had my Hema Navigator for several months now and I am very happy with the way it operates. One thing that annoyes me is the rate the battery discharges when it is not being used.
What is the best way to look after the battery? Should I charge it once a week or leave it permanently on charge? If the battery goes completely flat will data be lost and the battery damaged?
Your thoughts will be appreciated.
Regards
Hiluxwa

Make sure you have exited out (QUIT option) of either of the navigation programs when you have finished using the HN. If you don;t the battery will go flat quickly as the nav program (either one) will continue to run but with just the screen turned off.
No data will be lost when the battery goes flat.
cheers

Hi Brian,
Thanks for the suggestion re - exiting out of the navigation programs, makes sense. I do this most times when I shut the navigator down ( I may have forgotten on some occasions) but I still think the battery slowly discharges, I will double check tonight. Have you noticed the readings on the power meter after being off for a week? Mine will drop from 100% to 30%.
What charging method do you recommend, eg, leave on charge all the time or top up when necessary?

I'd like to back up the comments made by hiluxwa and re-open this topic. I seem to have a flat battery within about a week when the HN has NOT been used.
I notice the quick start guide doesn't seem to give "turn off" instructions other than on P2 - press the power button for 2 sec.
I always exit the navigation program and then turn the unit off via the power switch. What is consuming battery power? Do I have a dud battery?
By the way, is there a more comprehensive manual available?
Regards .... woftam

I would kike to add my 2 cents worth here as well, It does not matter which way I turn it off, after 3 days turned off mine will be flat. When using it for walking even when fully charged has poor usage life 3 continuous hours, if it is turned off during a cycle you get even less usage. Les

Like Les no matter which way I turn the Navigator off the battery goes flat after around 3 days.
Please advise what can be done to stop this occuring.

I don't have an answer but a theory. BTW we have seen this on all HN so your not alone.
My theory is that the HN is based on a pocket PC platform, eg ASUS, iPAQ, Dell etc. All pocket pc's don't infarct turn off when you press the off button. They run in the background all the time so that if a diary entry or an appointment entry may sounds an alarm and advise you as such . Note this functionality is not in the NH so off should really be off. End of theory.
Just a thought.

PS one of many tests on our list for the new HN 5
