SPOT Activation

Postby tustinr on Tue Sep 22, 2009 9:43 pm

How long does it take after registration and payment for the SPOT to become active ? I have completed everything on the website today, the SPOT appears to be working (flashing lights) but isn't sending any OK messages or tracking messages backt to the website or my email address. Am I missing something ? Have tried trawling through the FAQ to no avail. When I push the OK buttn both green lights are flashing in unison but there is no attempt at sending a message. Still havent' figured out in what format the cell phone numbers should be 045.. or +614... in Australia and the website is useless at explaining other than says Telstra is a recognised provider.
Cheers

Rego - normally a handfull of minutes

I presume your outside? Make sure SPOT is flat and level with the logo skywards.

OK button push to receiving SMS message took less than 50 secs the other day - best I've seen!

for mobile numbers in australia enter 614.... I believe +614... will work as well.

Still no luck - not sending messages. Tried again this morning - both green lights flashing in unison which is supposed to mean the reciever is getting a signal but zilch messages sent. Same for tracking and Help. I was wondering if I inadvertantly entered an incorrect activation code and if this may be the problem - can't think of anything else. Left it outside for over 20 minutes last night and it didn't make any difference.

Did you enter the ESN number from inside the battery case? We have several units with the barcodes on the outside of the box being differnt from the numbers on the inside,

Also are you checking your spot account for messages or waiting for them in email and.or sms? Check your spot account first. This will confirm the rego process.

Thanks Brian. I finally got it to work this afternoon (despite the sand in the air !) - just took a bit of patience. I took the ESN from the inside of the battery compartment. It is sending messages both by SMS and email. Just takes awhile. Have set up my shared pages and its really good. Thanks for your help. Will give it a try MTB on the weekend in the Dhurag National Park. Cheers Richard
