My wife just brought me a Hema navigator, what I would like to know is what program do I need to be able to map out my trips then transfer to the navigator. can I use the maps from the navigator and put them on my laptop and use oziexplorer.
If so do I have to buy the oziexplorer program.
how do you guys do it.
any help would be great.

Hello
Yes you can use OziExplorer to do you trip planning but you will probably have to purchase a copy as the limitations of the free version (listed below) may prove annoying or prevent you from doing what you want. You will need to use the trial version to view the maps supplied on the HN...but you will need to use the Shareware/Demo to save/load waypoints etc....which means youll have to get BMP format maps that uses WGS84 datum...possible but could prove difficult to get good maps of areas you want in this format

* The Shareware/Demo version is missing many features that you get in the full purchased version click here for details
o But it does allow full communication with the GPS for upload/download and moving map
o Only allows maps in BMP image format to be loaded
o Only loads maps in WGS84 datum

* The Trial Version has almost all the features of the full version (works with all supported image formats and datums) but with these limitations
o No communication with the GPS for upload/download
o No saving or loading of Waypoints, Events, Tracks etc
o No saving of map as an image file
o Will close down after 1 hour of running (must be restarted)

Best I can suggest is download the current version of Ozi from website and see how you go. The download includes both versions - just selct the right shortcut/*.exe file to start the version you wish to use.

Cheers

Hi Greg. Oziexplorer full version would have to be the most frustrating thing I have attempted. Could you give a simple explanation of how you get it to communicate with the Navigator. The navigator shows in NMEA GPS, com port is 7 baud is 38400 Sentence is GPRMC. I have copied the map of Kimberley's from the NAV to a folder called Oziexplorer maps where I can open it in OZi, I have imported a list of waypoints from GoogleEarth and can open them on this map. Problem is in Ozi configurations I think; How do you set up the configs ? then when I go to (gps nmea only button) on tool bar it shows GPWPL and If I click send waypoints to GPS it shows error opening com port. PS Navigator is connected via data cable running Active Sync. :? Hope you can assist Les

Gidday

This is the way I do it. Please none of this has anything to do with GPS settings in Ozi PC. OziPC does NOT commuciate to the HN via GPS settings.

Make sure active synch is install on your PC. See Microsoft.com to get a copy. I also thinks its on the latest HN CD. For Vista, use Windows Mobile Device Centre

Plug in your HN via the USB cable to you PC. Active synch will create a new device for you in my computer called Mobile Device
Double click on Mobile Device
Double click on Data Storage
You'll will see a series of folders, the one you are interested in is HNOZI\DATA
Now back on OZiPC create your waypoints & routes and save the in \oziexplorer\data.

Transfer these to your HM by simply draging and droping them (via File Explorer) from \oziexplorer\data to modile\device\HNOZI\DATA
They will now be available for use in Ozi in the HN.

Transfering data created in the HM is the reverse process.

Also note that if you have a SD card reader in your PC you can pop the card out of the HN use copies files directly fromt he SD card reader folders to OziPC /data folder.

Thanks for that Brian. That works a treat. Now i have another one for you. After spending 2 days trying I copied the map of the Kimberly's from the Hema to my Ozi map file where I can load it to Ozi. I previously created a route of the actual track I am interested in using Google Earth and KML waypoints and saved them in my KML folder on the PC.I can import them in Ozi and load them to my Kimberly map. I played around with the configuration settings in Ozi and can connect the Hema via Active Sync and actually upload the waypoints to it , rename and save them to Ozi data folder, but then it gets confused, it can't load them to the Hema map when I import these waypoints from file. They do not appear in the waypoints list, There seems to be something that happens to them during upload. These are the same waypoints that I dragged and dropped, saved in HN Ozidata file that work perfectly on the Mema Navigator Kimberly Map ??????. I can give you config settings if this will help. Les

Are you saving them in OziExplorer first as a waypoint (.WPT) file? renaming outside of Ozi will cause them not to be able to be used on the HN.

Brian, I have worked out that the method you indicated by copying and pasting or drag and drop the files using Active Sync is the most convenient and easiest method . And by the way thanks for explaining how to turn the HN off correctly, as I was experiencing premature battery discharging. Les
