Reading screen in daylight

Postby Ruggedlux on Sat Oct 24, 2009 1:40 pm

Hi. Wondering if anyone has fitted the latest AVNC 7000 to their Hilux. In the Hilux the Unit is high up on the centre console and when the sun reflects on it the screen is virtually unreadable. Is there a way to overcome this. I pressed the angle button but it angles in the up direction when i would like to go down as this will fix the problem. Any ideas anyone.

Hi I have the exact same problem, this problem renders the item useless during most of the day depending where the sun is. Not the products fault, but i would go as far to say that it is almost unsuitable for the hilux until a solution is found. I am an auto electrician and have looked at the mounting situation and i have come up with no solutions. If you end up finding any answers could you please let me know and i will do the same for you also.

Many thanks.

The unit has a flip up screen. Suitable for say Cruisers where its mounted vertical and lower. In the hilux its mounted higher and angled back. has the screen tilted forward not backward it would have been perfect.

Rugged,

I actually bought a anti glare silicone screen cover thinking that would solve my issue as i ahve a hilux as well, i have to say it dod no good whatsoever, considering it cant tilt up, ive looked at Kenwood GPS units and they tilt up and forward and at $1600 , and yet VMS is at 2799 im buggered why they couldnt have put the feature in it !

The screen on a sunny day is as useless and a raincoat at Ayres Rock ! im very dissapointed in the screeen ! considering i removed the Toyota factory Sat nav out to put VMS in, and i must say the screen on the OEM toyota one is a pleasure in sunlight :)

Dissapointed to say the least for such an expensive unit.

Hi Guvst06

Thanks for the reply as i was about to look for and buy an anti glare screen. It would have been a waste of time and efort. If the unit tilted forward it would have solved many issues. VMC really have to look at their screen design, something like the toyota gps screen as i have seen these and they work a treat.

Hi Guys

I have the same problem, i also tried a screen film that was supposed to correct this fault, no luck at all. I am very disappointed with this unit due to this fact. Seeing as VMS haven't come up with a fix to this issue i have stopped refering my 4wd customes to VMS, I have started advising them to get the pioneer version which has a much better screen at a fraction of the cost.
Any way about to take the unit out and leave it on the shelf to collect dust!!! About all that it is good for in a hilux.

Are VMS going to reply at all???

Howdy :)

I fully agree, i tried an anti glare screen as well , it did SWFA ! im really really disappointed, so much in fact that ive already had it professionally removed and the OEM Sat Nav put back in ! , i can see the OEM screen in Full sunlight with ease.

Im sending my VMS back to the Retailer, the VMS perhaps maybe ok in a 200 series or a dash fascia thats perfectly vertical , but any slant and its game over, and with no tilt forward theres no way at all around this at all.

I'm also not the only Hilux user that has the issue, i know of 5 others that have all reverted back to there OEM units.

Cheers

Hey guys calm down. The VMS units are not a "hunks of junk". We have not heard from any of our hilux customers about this issue at all. I would hope that if any of our forums members are having issues that they contact their retailer in the first instance as a matter of courtesy. Every retailer then has the ability to get VMS involved to resolve the issue.

Hands up up all those that have spoken to their retailer on this issue?

cheers

Howdy All,

Ive located a technology provider, in the ACT that can supply 100% anti-glare screens, that are made of iridium ( iridium is what OAKLEY use in the sunglasses and NASA use in there helmets so its good gear) and silicone, 2 layer, that stick but not like glue on the screen, they use a static type charge to adhere but can also peel off, I will keep you posted.

I guess in a nutshell the fix , would obviously be a tilt forward screen but i dont forsee that happening as yet, im sure this is a way, the VMS is certainly no piece of Junk, and my original comments were of 2 others experience's.

If toyota had considered a more vertiucal type radio mount then we would have no complaints but as we know they didnt so, lets see what members, retailers and VMS can come up with.

Regards

We truly appreciate your feedback.

Unfortunately due to the angle in the Hilux, the T7000 series display has performed under your expectations. We are also working hard to provide a solution but please understand that engineering and testing of any solutions does take time.

Once a solution is found, we will inform our customers via our website and this forum.

We value your support for the brand and look forward to some good news in the future.

Clam down may be appropriate, but with this issue being raised on this forum almost one month ago, no response from GPSOZ or from VMS themselves, this was the only way i was able to get a response, and work it did.

Yes I will put my hand up, I have now twice spoken to GPSOZ about this problem. To two different people in fact(that could be half the problem).

You are right the VMS is not a heap of junk, I may have gone overboard there, but in a hilux they are useless if you want to use them during the day.

HI VMS,

Guys thats all great working on a solution, and and i appreciate that, but as far as i can see there is really only one solution and thats to make the front a tilt Screen, im suprised that it wasnt thought of given the LC 200's and 100's and even Prados have a vertical face angle so im actually thinking some taller users may even like the tile up function as us hilux users would love the tilt forward function.

I don't think the VMS touring is a heap of junk, but i would have thought more R&D would have gone into it before it was put into production, i mean the Hilux dash angle stands out well and truely.

Ive got a real lot of mates that have bought these from various retailers across NSW and for 2799+ not many of them are happy campers and some i know are considering calling for refunds as not being able to see a screen during daylight prohibits the use of the VMS for what it was purchased for............ and considering 80% of the driving is done in the day light, its a justified issue across the users that i know of.

I hope VMS comes up with a solution quite soon perhapsm even VMS could mention on their own website that they recognise the issue and that there working on it, as theres alot of users that dont even know about this issue.

Considering my HIlux was recenlty photgraphed for an upcoming 4wd action magazine article im glad it wasnt installed as it was a sunny day, and they would have asked about it.. as i had the editor in my Hilux for the days photos shoot.

a Side note, GOPS OZ will do all they can to help there aware of the issues and hvaent wiped there hands of it there batting for everyone on this !

VMS, may i ask why the Nissan version of the 7000 touring got the HD 600x480 display and the Toyota didnt ? i note the OEM Toyota one is a very glossy display i presume the Nissan HD display is similar ? im thinking this could be the reason ? as the moment sunlight hits ours the screen turns opaque.....

Looking forward to the solution.

Cheers

Hi GUV. The Touring 7023 does have a tilt function. Press ANGLE and use the TUNE knob to tilt the screen.

The Nissan T7006 and the Toyota T7023 have exactly the same screen. I don't know where you got they 600x480 specification from.

How many of your mate have purchased these? As brian said, please tell them to let our retailers know. Apart from this forum, our email and our dealers, we don't have any other source of feedback. If there are unhappy customers we would like to know about it. At this stage, this forum has been the only source of complaint.

Both screens are 800x480 native with the GPS software running at 480x234 (standard definition). The reason for this is that both Ozi and Memory Map use a small keyboard. At 800x480, the keyboards are just not usable in these application.

HI VMS,

I read the specs on your site the NIssan Touring 5th Spec line at the bottom, states HD display , if i check the Toyota Specs for display it doesnt say HD display

http://www.vms4x4.com/product-in_dash_g ... 006_nissan

HD 800 x 480 display

I know of at least 5 Hilux users, that have the Touring. Explore OZ, 4wd Action , and a Hilux.net theres comments also

The ANGLE you mention is fine but it tilts it up and makes it worse.................. id like Tilt forward from the top not bottom, but that would be a full redesign in my opinion.

Below is a link to some pictures ive taken so that VMS can see the difference in the screens in daylight and overcast days.
