Installation password

G'day,

just bought the 3000 and it is pretty good. Only two real complaints are:

not including oziexplorer (but thats already been said)
and the display does not tilt up a bit, I miss the top line of the screen and can't adjust the mechanical tilt of the unit. This is only a problem because the screen is recessed slightly.

Over all I love it and so do a few of my friends.

However, I can't get into the steering wheel control programming mode. Nothing happens when I select the password on the remote control. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,

You need to have the unit in standby mode (key in acc position, then press SRC on the AVNC for a few seconds. It will turn off (and go into standby mode)).

Then get your remote and press 1234 and the "STOP" button. There will be a few beeps & the steering wheel function interface will appear.

If you need more help, its in the user manual. http://www.vms4x4.com/support.html

Mark,

What vehicle do you have?

BTW can I suggest people put their vehicle make and model in their signature?

cheers

Brian: Vehicle is a 2007 GU Patrol 3L auto.

VMS. The link in your reply does not work. I have the latest manual I think and one small step is missing and that is the "stop" button. Thanks for replying.
I have tried to set it up but the only control that seems to really work is vol +. The other settings dont seem to read the AD convertor. Any clues here?

Also the setup failure message is mispelt, ie SETUP FAILTURE

I have been using the nav part for a few weeks now and it is bloody good.

A couple of my mates have had a look and are interested as well.

We didn't even know that 07 patrols had OEM steering wheel controls. Can anyone confirm this?

Funny question to ask. We picked the vehicle up in December 07, and I just checked the compliance plate which says 11/07. The steering wheel has special controls marked vol+, vol-, mode, off/on etc and they seem to operate the orignal stereo so we just assumed that they were original manufacturer equipment. Trust me they are there.

This might also explain why there was no premade loom adaptor that included the steering wheel controls when we bought the unit.

This is the last thing I have to get right to be completely happy. Is it possible the the two wires (other than earth) could be backwards? The off/on button has always worked, and when I do the setup only the vol+ detects an A/D level (around 3) all the others seem to stay at zero.

Mark,
If your vehicle has the same set-up as the X-Trail (and it sounds like it does) then the steering wheel control is actually a 3 wire system with a common ground and half the controls working through the 2nd wire with the other half on the third. You can't just join the 2nd and 3rd wires together either as the Vol Up resistance between W2 and W1 is the same as the Vol Down resistance between W3 and W1. Once I work out a solution for my X-Trail I'll post it here.

Thanks for that. I guess Nissan would use similar methods between models. I assumed that one wire was GND, the other +ve and the third was the Analogue to digital. I was confused that regardless which way the none GND wires were I could get one control to work and the ON/OFF always worked.
I would love to hear a solution as the sales pitch that EOM steering controls would work was one thing that lured me.
It has been a pretty good unit til yesterday when the SD card shit itself. For some reaon I can no longer access the files on the card and I had to put Oziexplorer onto another card. Not really sure how to move the other files yet, so I have lost the street navigation.
It seems pretty hard to get a real asnwer to problems. I wonder if there are other secret menus hidden somewhere that allow more programming to occur?
