Upgrade 2265 or move on

Postby Barrlind on Tue Oct 20, 2009 8:37 am

Hi Guys

I have now been using my 2265 for 18 months now but have done nothing about updating the R66 software at this point as I am still undecided to the value of doing so.

Reading the info on the new 7000 I note that it is running V16 of Whereis. So the question is if I updated now would it be at V16 or will I have to update to that at a latter date and greater expense, assuming that V16 will eventually be available for the 2265 ie. compatible.

The 2265 is great on topo maps but so are a number of other units (eg. Polaris at half the cost) but the issue with the bluetooth, radio whine (must put that filter in sometime), poor reception etc should have been better addressed. My mobile will bluetooth to my pc downloading data, managing phone book and transfering pictures all things that I would have thought more complicated than answering a phone call that dosen't present a number. So I had to install a car kit for the mobile so I could have reliable service when mobile. The 2265 hopefully was going to provide a single solution but not to be.

I suppose the real underlying question is, is it worth throwing more money at the 2265 given its inability to be fit for purpose on a number of fronts (radio, bluetooth ) or just move onto something else that hopefully will function as advertised out of the box.

hi barry, excellent thoughts i too am still running around on the original software and as soon as i can get to sydney i will be getting a complete overhaul from brian and gpsoz, the whereis upgrade sounds excellent from other reports on here, whether by waiting we get v16 might be a bonus.the reason i havent done the upgrade is that the two dealers in sa and especially the premium dealer have no idea. They arent aware of ozi upgrades untill i tell them they"re available and the premium dealer didnt know u could put all your music files onto the sd card<LOL>we did try to do the ozi upgrade at original point of purchase but didnt get past step 2.i am so looking forward to getting up there and getting all the upgrades and yeah the 2265 has crappy radio reception and the bluetooth meltdown is annoying and route 66 ordinary but spending another 3,000 not sure about that i think i will use it tiil i kill it.cheers

Gidday

drop in any time any we'll help sort it out for you. Currently testing a BT/phone upgrade for the 2265 so that may help. AM/FM reception, check check and recheck aerial. Good point about the V15 vs V16 upgrade, I'll contact VMS.

cheers
