Undocumented features

Postby JohnR (Vic) on Mon Aug 03, 2009 9:36 am

Over the years I have had WinCE PDAs and Palm systems PDAs as well and from time to time things worked a lot better after you pressed the Reset. You would never be aware of what sent it awry, but the Reset is your friend., as long as it wasn't the hard reset that lost your data.

Our VMS is very much a combined unit and I believe has virtually a PDA board inside the unit, that provides the logic and computer power for the WinCE interface front end and to run the mapping. I reasoned that from time to time the Reset may need to be pressed.

I was reading on the messages on the OziExplorer CE Groups site where someone with a PDA based WinCE operating system found a Reset button recessed in the back of his GPS. On the front of the 3000 Mk II unit I have, there is a small hole, above the SD card slot and below the DVD eject button. One day I found my VMS slow in finding satellites but a press with the paper clip in that hole reset the system. There is NO loss of data for your Bluetooth or anything, but it worked as it should afterwards. The Reset button in the VMS is there for you and can be your friend.

Cheers
John

Good pick, John - a Windows box without the equivalent of Ctrl-Alt-Del is always a bit constrained :-)
You've saved me a lot of time searching through the documentation (which would have been futile it seems).
Many thanks
