SPOT's amazing battery life

Postby Zebra400 on Sat Apr 18, 2009 11:30 am

We have been running a SPOT over 6 months now and am amazed just have efficient the 2 AA lithium batteries are. We have been using it on many 4WD trips and some MTB rides on the weekend. We also run auto tracking so our SPOT unit is sending our position every 10 minutes.

According to the SPOT manual, we will receive a flashing red light when the batteries are down to 30%. Well the good news is that the green lights keep flashing, so we still have not used 70% of the battery life. We bought a pack of 2 AA lithium batteries when we first bought the unit as replacements, thinking that we would be using them after a few weeks. But no! Hopefully the backups don't go off just sitting in the pack, waiting to be used - Ha Ha!!

We are extremely pleased with our SPOT and find it a great tool for our family & friends to see where we are whilst travelling. Some of family also like to check the website to see that we have returned home safe after our trips.

For its cost, we think it is a great tool for communicating our location and as a back up for possible emergencies.
