Migrating to a larger SD Card and Radio Reception.

Postby pnuske on Sun Jun 14, 2009 8:35 pm

Hi All,

I would like to migrate from a 4gb card to a 16gb card to hold some more maps I have. I have the 3000 series VMS.

Is there a procedure to migrate to a larger card? I have copied all the files, including the hidden and system file, and it asks to regiser the card when I try to launch Memeory map in the VMS. I look at the card in Memory Map and the card says that it is registered.???

Any Ideas??? I would appreciate it.

On a side note, what do poeple think of the radio in the 3000? Whenever I turn mine on, the reception is horrible. I mean you cannot listen to it, there is a high pitch squeel in the audio and the static is terrible. I live 13 kays from brisbane and have never had any problems with any other radio. Am I doing anything wrong?

Thanks everyone

The latest version of igo/sensis maps are locked to the SD card supplied. as you have found you cannot simply copy files from the original card to a new card. Give th guys at VMS a call to see what they can offer you.

You don't mention what sort of vehcicle you have or if its on both AM or FM bands. One thing we have found that on LC 80 and 100 series you must have the aerial fully extended for best reception.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.

The vehicle is an 07 Patrol Wagon. Have you experienced or heard of any issuse with the Patrol?

Memory Map was very helpfull in explaining how to copy the MM stuff. If anyone is interested in the procedure let me know and I will post the info.

No feedback on this vehicle - have instaleld a few. Comments I should imagine would hold true for this. However the patrol does use an antenna adapter which may have worked lose. Worth a check.

Hey brian,

Yeah.... checked that adapter. Very frustrating as it makes the radio unuseable.

Certainly would.. allways interseted and am about to get the software update as well.

Radio reception... have 08 diesel manual Patrol and only radio reception problems is with very weak AM stations, and is just typical low level microprocessor clock spurious radiation, otherwise very happy. Also run HF installation and only a few spurs here and there through the 1-30MHz spectrum.

Ned, I am not sure about an 07 Patrol of course, but my 06 Sahara which has a lot of electronics works well over long distance listening. Have just been up around places like William Creek and Oodnadatta and I was pretty pleased with the AM reception where I was concerned of the sort of antenna connected.

Cheers

First just copy all the files over except (or delete after) the MMap licence folder and the serialnum.mmcid file. This is a hidden file so in order to find it you may need, when browsing the SD card in windows explorer, to go Tools>Folder options>View>Show hidden files and folders. Also worth un-ticking the Hide extensions for know file types.

Now you have a card with no licence info on it and need first to initialise it buy placing it in the unit and powering up MMap then Menu > Exit and take out the card over to the PC card reader.

Thanks to Terry from Memory Map Support

Hi pnuske,

Thanks for the information on removing the MMap license folder and the serialnum.mmcid file.

I took these off the 16GB card and tried it in the VMS unit. Then tried to initialise it as you suggest. However, the error message regarding the license kept coming up before I had a chance to exit from the menu?

Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong?

Also, what do you mean by "take out the card over to the PC card reader? Is this after inserting it into the VMS?

Thanks,

Paul

You can let the license initiate, thats not a problem. Just press X on the message. Then take the card out of the AVNC. put into pc and then activate using memory map (HELF>license management>SD card> basic GPS interface)

Hey VMS,

Any thoughts on the radio reception? I can't seem to find out how the reception can be so bad. All earths are checked and have checked the resistance with a multimeter to make sure that the earth was good.

Given a few minutes the reception will get a loud dog whistle like squeel to the sound and the station will get alot of static through it.

Might email VMS themselves as well.

Anyone have any experience they can offer??? Car is 07 4.2 Patrol Wagon.

Cheers.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the reply. It's the standard factory aerial that is in the left hand side of the guard. The reception does not change when half up or fully extended.

Any experiences?

I like the radio and this is annoying me a bit. If I knew the reception was not going to be any good I probably would of saved all the money.

Thanks again Brian.

Are we talking about the latest 3000 Mk2 software here ???? I've just been told I can't get an upgrade (paying extra) on/with a 16Gb SD card. I have 16GB card in unit and want an upgrade with a new 16GB card (keeping old card/software as backup). I am running the current 16G card at about 10G, so need more than an 8g card.

I see above that 16/32Gig cards do work, so VMS what's the story??
