Mapsource V6.14.1

Questions, answers and general discussion about OZtopo - Australian Topographical maps for Garmin GPS units

Mapsource V6.14.1

Postby gpsoz on Thu Jun 19, 2008 11:23 pm

Just a word of warning, don't install MapSource V6.14.1 if you plan to use OZtopo (or any other third party map). There is an issue between the two, currently being worked on that stops Mapsource V6.14.1 working if OZtopo (and many other mapping products) are installed.

MapSource now does not work

Postby greg.mccall on Sat Aug 02, 2008 10:06 am

What happens if I have Oztopo (V1.2) and updated MapSource (as I did not know about the compatability issue) and now MapSource does not work.

How do I fix it?

Simply install Mapsource V6.13.7 over the top of V6.14.x. Do NOT uninstall mapsource V6.14.x via the control panel.

Download V6.13.7 from

http://www2.gpsoz.com.au/downloads/MapSource_6137.exe

See also http://www.oztopo.com/v2_faq.htm

When I installed City Navigator NT 2009 on my laptop it installed Mapsource V6.14.1 but Vista Ultimate would not allow me to reload V6.13.7 over the top of the later version even running the setups as an administrator. After playing around with the registry keys, complicated by having other Garmin programs loaded I finally uninstalled all the Mapsource and Oztopo programs reinstalled City Navigator, deleted the Mapsouce exe file and all the dll files in the Garmin folder and was the able to load Mapsource V6.13.7 to get Oztopo loaded. Hope this helps

Thanks, Brian... about two days too late for me!!!
I contacted Garmin following the installation of the latest MapSource...
message to Garmin:
snip >>I just upgraded my MapSource from the Garmin web site to
Mapsourse_6141.exe. I am now unable to use Mapsource at all...l I get a
window with a message which says "there is a problem with the Product
20M Contours installation. Please re-install Product 20M Contours and
start Mapsource again". I have re-installed 20M Contours - no change. I
deleted 20M Contours using the Add-Remove program inControl Panel ...
still get the same message. I used a registry cleaner then tried
Mapsource again. Same message. I re-installed 20M contours - same
message. I cannot get MapSource to go any further than this message, and
cannot see any of my Garmin maps on my computer. This program (20M
Contours) used to work with my previous version of Mapsource... so how
do I sort the problem and get running again?
<<snip
basically, the support person said
snip>>
"Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I am sorry you having
problems with this 20M Contours product I however have never worked
with this product so I have nothing to offer you in the way of help.
I would contact the vender of the 20m product and maybe a work around is
known by them.
if however you wish to uninstall the Garmin Mapsource completely
follow the steps below. "
<<snip
It seems as though my only option is to uninstall ALL my Garmin stuff and re-install it!!!

"They" weren't at all impressed by the fact that OzTopo worked in perfect harmony with the earlier version of MapSource - and couldn't care less.

Fortunatley Garmin has a large support team and is able to repsond to you in a timely manner. Unfortunately Garmin has a large support team and not all of them know about OZtopo.

Anyways try deleting mapsource.exe from your garmin folder and install the V6.13.7 from our web site (see above).

Should fix the problem.

Thanks, Brian.
I followed the link to the download of the older Garmin version of MapSource... but the first time the file wouldn't unzip... so I tried again, and got the same message:
ZIP damaged...(blah, blah)....Possible cause, File Transfer error.

Frustrated is not the word!!!

Thats a problem with your download, just checked the ZIP file. Delete all temp internet download files via options within your browser and do the download again.

Sorry no.

V6.14.1 support will not be until V3 of OZtopo. It will require (at least) new unlock codes and we didn't want to resissue new unlock codes for V2.1. We wanted to make upgrades from V2.0 to V2.1 as simple and easy as possible, ie no unclock code changes, no fees etc etc.

Hi Brian,

You don't need to re-issue new unlock codes to fix this problem. All you need to do is make some small changes to your registry.

First, start Regedit.exe (normally located in C:\Windows)

To fix Seperate Road & Contour Layers..

1. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Garmin\Mapsource\Families\Oztopo V2.1 Roads\3f
2. Rename the hex key 3f to 63 (which is it's decimal equivalent) by right-clicking on it and selecting the rename option.
3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Garmin\MapSource\Products\OZtopo V2.1 10m Contours
4. Rename the key "OZtopo V2.1 10m Contours" to 63 by right-clicking on it and selecting the rename option.

To fix Combined Road & Contour Layers..

1. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Garmin\MapSource\Families\OZtopo V2.1 Combined\3f
2. Rename the hex key 3f to 63 (which is it's decimal equivalent) by right-clicking on it and selecting the rename option.

Cheers,

Mike.

Re: Mapsource V6.14.1 down grade to 6.13

Postby beurlej on Thu Oct 30, 2008 11:13 am

Hi, I have just run the 6.13 over my 6.14 as suggested and it seems to go too fast to have done anything. It then asks you to run Mapsource and when I to that version 14 is still there... any suggestions?

yes,

locate mapsource.exe on your c drive, normally c:\garmin\mapsource.exe and delete this file before running the V6.13.7 install.
