You don't need to re-issue new unlock codes to fix this problem. All you need to do is make some small changes to your registry.

Cheers,

Hmm this may work, I'll have to check the ramifications...

thanks

OK done some very limted testing with the suggestion above

First off playing with REGEDIT can be dangerous and may leave your installation of Mapsource unuseable. Yes managed to do that while playing around!

Second, the above does not work for the combined layers version of OZtopo, which is popular installtion option.

At this stage I would recommend against the above until we have done some more testing. Given that V2.1 is at the duplicators and most of the DVD are pressed it won't wont be in the upcoming V2.1 release.

However it gives us more ideas for a possible downloadable "patch" for V2.1 in the near future.

Thanks again Mike

OK we need some people to check and test our 6.14.1 patch.

Install OZtopo V2.1
Upgrade Mapsource to V6.14.1 (either via download or via the Help option in Mapsource)
Do not lauch Mapsource at this point - you'll get an error if you do

Download and run
http://www2.gpsoz.com.au/downloads/OZto ... _patch.exe

Restart Mapsource

All should be good. You can confirm that you have install the patch correctly by looking at the date of
c:\program files\OZtopo Combined 2-1.exe . It should be 11/11/2008 10:48pm

Note Mapsource V6.14.1 is VERY slow. This is NOT a result of OZtopo (try viewing the Basemap or City Navigator and you'll see what we mean). You need 2GHz + 2GB of RAM to make it reasonable.

You can use this patch with Mapsource V6.13.7 if you decide to go back to this version.

Maps also converted to Mac OS X using map converter (but see below) and were then quite usable with "Road Trip" the MacOS version of Mapsource. Shame Mapsource and Road Trip don't seem to understand transparent layers for superimposing the topo. Then again I noticed that the Oztopo seems to come with a "combined" version so maybe I need to look into that.

I followed the defaults with mapconverter which include compressing the maps which it says is recommended. This gave me a windows error complaining about the compression and offering to notify Mr Gates. Running the conversion again without compression did the trick but produced a folder full of files for each map rather than a nice compressed archive. I tried mapconverter on 3 different PCs here and also on oztopo 2.0 and an old city navigator with similar results. I can only conclude that this is definitely a Garmin issue.

Of course your experiences may differ - computers are like that

Yes load OZtopo combined layer on your PC and use Map converter. Works fine.

As for Mapconverter, sounds like a Garmin problem. Works OK for us on XP, Vista home and Vista pro.

I ran the patch, then updated Mapsource to 6.14.1.
Opened Mapsource, looks good.
Scrolled around Victoria & zoomed in & out of OzTopo v2.1.
Works well, no problems appeared.
Possibly a little slower than older Mapsource, but not enough to be a concern.

No not this stage but you will need the 6.14.1 patch if you are upgrading from 6.13.7.

Performance seems a lot better.
