Digital Radio

Postby josh on Fri Oct 16, 2009 8:37 pm

I was wondering if the VMS in dash units have plans on getting digital radio in the upcoming models.
As digital radio is now out, what is the chance they will close down the analogue signals in the future as they have with TV?
I am hoping that the vehicle and VMS system will last a long time and I don't want to need another bit of kit in the car just to recieve radio.

Cheers,
Josh

I spoke to an ABC colleague the other day. Intro of digital radio will be a lot slower than Digital TV in Australia. Metro areas first, out suburbs later then a long time down the track small towns near majour cities. ie NSW central coast. No plans for country areas at this stage. I;m guessing 5-7 years vefore we'll hear digital radio west of the black stump. Satelite radio may happend sooner. Certainly no plans to remove the tradional AM/fm bands

So to answer your question I believe VMS don;t have any immediate plans to include ditial radio at this stage.
