Announcing OZtopo V2.1b

Postby gpsoz on Fri Feb 13, 2009 10:50 am

OZtopo V2.1b is an update to OZtopo V2.1.

It can be downloaded from:

http://www2.gpsoz.com.au/oztopo/downloads/OZtopo_21b_Setup.exe

Changes include:
Compatability with MapSource V6.14.1 and later
New programs, OZtopo Combined 2-1.exe and OZtopo Seperate 2-1.exe
    Updated contours around Ayers Rock
    Updated roads in the ACT
Updated water and lakes display in combined product

Simply download and install.

Note that if you installed the combined layer option in V2.1, you will have to re install this option (OZtopo Combined 2-1.exe ) after this update

I have installed 2.1b and the latest mapsource update,I can load either contours or roads to a sd card but if I try to load the two combined I get an error message saying that the garmin application is faulty and to send details to Garmin Tech Support.
I did and they suggested reloading Mapsource which I did but no change.
Any Ideas?

Brian
Mapsource is V 6.15.6

SD card - I have tried 1Gig Kingston and 2Gig Kingston
I have tried to load different amounts of the combined map including just one section-results are the same.

I am loading the maps via a card reader attached to my computer,
I have tried two GPSs both Garmin one is Vista CX and other is Vista HCX.

Both GPSs correctly display just roads or just contours.

It is when I try to load the combined map to the card that the error occurs.

The error message that is generated is pasted below.

Regards

GW

GW,

This is correct, you cannot load the combined mapset to a GPS. However you can load the contours AND the roads onto a GPS at the same time. This was a design decesion we made. By doing it this way you have the ability to turn contours on and off on the GPS at will.

In brief, its decribed in more detail on the OZtopo.com/faq page,

select the roads product
select the area you wish to load
select the 10m contours product
select the area you wish to load
click on send to GPS and select maps

Cheers

Brian
Thank you I had forgotton that.
It must be because Oztopo is such a good product that it never goes wrong so does not need to be reloaded - or it could be my memory.
Thanks again

Please remind me of the steps to install V2.1b. I made a try, but now when I turn on my GPS, I get the message "Can't Unlock Maps".

The "can't unlock maps message" comes from having maps on your GPS that have not been unlocked to it. Garmin maps and OZtopo use a 25 digit unlock code, which is created from a combination of GPS and product information. In the case of OZtopo, we use unit id (internal serial number) and the OZtopo serial number (on the DVD case).

If you install V2.1b from scratch via a DVD then you'll need to obtian the unlock code to suit YOUR gps form www.oztopo.com. If you are upgrading via the patch on our web site there is no need for a new unlcock code.

In either case the correct unlock code must be installed before you transfer maps to your GPS unit otehrwiase you;ll get the "can't unlock maps message"

Don;t also forget that every map product loaded to your GPS, eg City Navigator, Bluechart and/or OZtopo must also have their corresponding correct unlock code also installed.

hope that helps

I have found by accident that if I update to V2.1b and then run the combined .exe file and then update to the latest Mapsource that mapsource will no longer run.
I had to remove all programs and reload from scratch - all is ok if layers are seperate before updating Mapsource.
My question is will I need to remember to run seperate layers before updating to next Mapsource??

Thanks

Hi all, glad to be on board.
The Garmin Etrex Hcx has got me convinced at this stage - even looked at the latest touchscreen one mmmm Dakota?
About to launch into the GPS world for the first time and lookin' real hard at the OzToppo product as the way to go.
Is it better than the Garmin mapping - contours etc (I hunt n bushwalk) I need accurate detail, elevation and ccompass.
Help - and dont let me waste good $$$ guys

We think its better than other mapping products, but we're a bit biased!

But the advantges are:

10m contours
The ability to turn contours on and off to make maps easier to read
Small map size, without loss of detail, so you still have room on your SD card to load other maps, eg BlueChart
Similar information to that found on 1:25,000 topo maps
Supported on all Garmin mapping units

I don't think you find all the above on any other product.

I have bit the bullet and have ordered the Vista Hcx, will go with Oztoppo - sounds just the thing for my needs. Deer hunting, marking very specific locations during the day to walk into out out of in the dark when suitable 'ambush' spots are found.
I have to wait for the unit as Oztoppo require a serial number - why I cant fathom.
Thanks for your help.
Time to get out and have some fun, going to look into geocaching too, a mate put me on to it.

>>I have to wait for the unit as Oztoppo require a serial number - why I cant fathom

The reason is licensing. OZtopo license is for its use on one GPS unit. To satisify this requirement we produce an unlock code that is based on the unit id (internal serial number) of the unit it is licensed to.
